The Lazy Lizard Perentie is often compared with with the Cub Hard Floor campers. This is not surprising once you find out that the first camper trailer owned by the family behind Lazy Lizard was a actually a Cub rear folding model.
As the Perentie was being developped, the question in the back of our minds was always, 'Are we doing this as well as Cub?'.
So what was the answer? Which is better, the Cub or Lazy Lizard's Perentie?
Cub has been around for over fifty years and is an icon of the Australian Camper Trailer industry.
Most of Cub's models are rear folding, like the Perentie. A couple are forward folding, but their reputation is built on its rugged, fast set-up rear fold models.
There is no better design than the rear fold when it comes to off road and off grid camping and Lazy Lizard wanted to produce one that was affordable to the average Australian family.
Unwilling to sacrifice on quality, Lazy Lizard has focussed its efforts on a single model, the Perentie. Where Cub has a half dozen models, Lazy Lizard has gained economies of scale by sticking to a single model and making that the best we can.
Having designed a brilliant, rugged and reliable camper, Lazy Lizard has kept the price reasonable by having it fabricated overseas and bringing it, flat-packed, directly to Perth, where it is assembled in our Canning Vale premises.
This is like comparing a Patrol to a Land Cruiser. As a loyal Patrol owner, I would never consider changing vehicles. But Land Cruiser owners feel exactly the same about their 4WD.
Certainly, the Perentie is half the price of the equivalent Cub and we achieved our goal of a more affordable alternative.
Although less expensive than the Cub, the Perentie stands on its own as a quality camper that is built for Australia's rugged terrain.
There is a reason Perentie owners are so devoted to their campers. It is the best rear fold model on the market.
